Alginates
Alginates: are derived from natural brown seaweed that makes it highly absorbent and conforming to the wound. They are able to absorb 20 times their weight. The alginate forms a gel within the wound bed allowing it to maintain a moist healing environment.
Antimicrobials
Antimicrobials: dressing come in the form of topical and gauze products delivering active ingredients that decrease the bacterial load and manage exudate.
Bioguard Barrier Dressings
Derma Sciences BIOGUARD Barrier Dressings have been proven to prevent bacterial penetration and inhibit growth within wound dressings. BIOGUARD dressings provide a barrier to bacterial penetration and results in >5-log (99.999%) kill of a broad spectrum of microbes including antibiotic resistant organisms. PolyDADMAC is a cationic biocide that attracts bacteria and binds with it, disrupting and destroying the cell wall. PolyDADMAC is the active component within BIOGUARD. These dressings are non-toxic to healthy cells. BIOGUARD has a patented manufacturing process that makes it the only dressing that is non-leaching, non-resistant and non-toxic. Collagens
Collagens: Stimulates new tissue development.Collagen is the most common and effective MMP controller and directs these enzymes away from the wound bed and up into the collagen layer. While most dressings only regulate moisture content (an Alginate drying a wet wound or a Hydrogel wetting a dry wound) Collagen actively interferes with the MMP process.
Composites
Composites: A single dressing that is composed of several features that may include bacterial barrier, an absorptive layer, or hydrogel.
Contact Layers
Contact Layers: Single layers made of a material that allows wound exudate to pass through to a secondary dressing.
Foams
Foams: Highly absorptive non adherent dressing for heavy draining wounds while providing a padded protection. (Moderate to heavy exudate)
Hydrocolloids
Hydrocolloids: Highly flexible non adherent dressings that come in all shape and sizes in a thin polyurethane composition. (Light to moderate exudate)
Hydrogels
Hydrogels:Can be used as a primary or secondary dressing to add moisture to the wound bed. This dressing comes in gels, gauzes, or sheet dressings. They have a high water content that is not good for heavy draining wounds. (Dry wound to small drainage)
Puracol Plus AG
A consistent cause of a non healing wound is the MMP factory creating enzymes which inhibit healing in otherwise healthy patients. Collagen is the most common and effective MMP controller and directs these enzymes away from the wound bed and up into the collagen layer. While most dressings only regulate moisture content (an Alginate drying a wet wound or a Hydrogel wetting a dry wound) Collagen actively interferes with the MMP process.
Puracol Sterile Collagen Dressings
Primary wound dressing for all drainage types. Highly absorbent material converts to soft, gel sheet that stays in contact with wound bed as it absorbs exudate. Sterile, latex-free.
Transparent Films
Transparent Films: adhesive, semipermeable, polyurethane membrane that comes in a variation of size and thickness. This waterproof dressing provides a barrier to bacteria and contaminants. They do not provide absorption. (Should not be used on moderate to heavy drainage.)
